Data sources

SeaData combines data from the sources below. For each source we list the rights holder, the licence under which the data is available and — where the licence requires it — the verbatim attribution text.

SeaData processes this data: it is interpolated to the given position, converted and combined. Results therefore differ from the original source. See also the terms and conditions.

ICON-EU (~7 km, Europe) and ICON-D2 (~2.2 km, up to 58 north and 4 west) are retrieved four times a day and cropped to the sailing area. The data is unmodified apart from that cropping and unit conversion.

HARMONIE-AROME Cy43 P1, retrieved four times a day from the KNMI Data Platform and cropped to the sailing area (50-56 north, 1-8 east). The model runs 60 hours ahead in hourly steps. The data is unmodified apart from that cropping and unit conversion.
Shipping forecast for the North Sea districts, the Dutch continental shelf and the coastal districts

LicenceCC BY 4.0
Required attributionSource: KNMI
A separate dataset from the same rights holder as HARMONIE. This is not model output but text written by a meteorologist, and is shown unmodified. Matching a position to a district is an ESTIMATE by SeaData, not by KNMI: the district boundaries are published as a chart, not as coordinates.

Open-Meteo requires a link wherever the data is shown, and disclosure of any changes made. Since July 2026 ICON-EU and ICON-D2 come directly from DWD; Open-Meteo now only fills gaps our own grids do not cover. NOTE: the free tier of Open-Meteo permits non-commercial use only.
